Lessons

Our trip to the allergist was quite educational!  I learned a lot!  If you are allergic to ragweed, it often presents as a food allergy to cucumber, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, bananas, and zucchini.  But, these things will only cause allergy symptoms if they are raw.  If they are cooked, the protein breaks down.  Since our problem is bananas, Bri was tested for a ton of environmental stuff.  She's allergic to most grasses, trees and of course the ragweed.  Poor thing had to sit there after her scratch test and not scratch!  She breathed a huge sigh of relief when the nurse finally rubbed cortizone on her arms.  The good news was that a banana allergy is not a major food allergy.  We don't have to carry an epi-pen.  She only has to avoid uncooked bananas.  When we got home, I was telling Brian about it and he wanted to know if they tested her for being allergic to boys!  And if that is something she should avoid like bananas.
