Where I'm From

Over on Shannon's blog, her New Year's Resolution was to write a post for her blog everyday. She is getting some of her topic ideas from dailypost.wordpress.com. She posted the link earlier in the week. I headed over there today to check it out. So, here's my post for today's topic, #62 Describe the town where you grew up.

I grew up in the community of Sandy Mush. Our address was Forest City, but I was and still am proud to say, I'm from Sandy Mush. Now, there is an incorporated Sandy Mush, which means they have a post office, but that's not us. When I was younger both sets of grandparents lived less than 5 miles from our house (until Nana married Papa Ed and moved to Inman). Anyway, everybody knows everybody and their business in Sandy Mush. If you want to catch up on the latest gossip, go hang out at Key Largo and the men up there will fill you in. The place to eat is Spake's for burgers, onion rings and a peanut butter milkshake. Since we've moved, there is now a Dollar General across from the fire department. At one point in time Aunt Darlene and her husband owned a hardware store. That's where Sonya and Michael got a tiller to run with no sparkplugs. It was also up there where I learned there were some CRAZY people around. One guy told me he could make a bomb that would blow Rutherford County off the map. He scared me to death. The Queen of the World also lived there. She was some nutjob who gave me a Christmas card she had signed and she said it would pay my way through college (I'm sure Momma and Daddy wished that were true). It was a good place to grow up and I wouldn't change it for the world!

For some reason this song reminds me of Sandy Mush.
