Through Someone Else's Eyes

It's odd to see your children through someone else's eyes.  I know what I love about them, what makes them special to me.  It's not often to hear what other people find special in them and what they love about them.  Maranda had to write a paper for one of her classes about an important person to her.  Here is what she wrote:

"Moments after my high school graduation, I walked out of the Cabarrus Arena with the other

graduates and there he was with balloons and flowers. It’s the small things that matter most in life.

The excitement and giant smile on his face when he saw me was more memorable than my entire high

school graduation itself. He was so happy to see me and come to think of it he always is. That is one of

the reasons why I love him so much. To him it really does not matter what I wear, what I have, or how

awful my day was, he is going to be happy to see me and that is what makes him so special. The best

feeling in the world is knowing you are loved.

The second best feeling in the world is the one you get when you spend time with those that

you love. For us this time is spent playing ninja, arresting stuffed animals, drawing pictures of horses,

and building things out of bungee cords. I have literally watched this boy grow up. I have known him

since before he could walk, and long before he could talk. This boy will brighten your day like you could

not even imagine. Long before he could talk you could just tell he was going to be hilariously funny

because of the ridiculous facial expressions he would make. It was like he was just trying to get the

words out, and when he did learn to talk, that is all he did. I can hear him now, “Marwanda, I love you,

and I’m going to marry Marwanda.” It literally makes me so happy I could cry.

Who would have thought that the tall, slightly goofy, seven year old boy that was too cute for

his own good would capture my heart? He is probably the most important person in my life and I would

do anything for him. I cannot wait to see that amazing person he turns out to be. His name is Alex Taylor. And, Yes, I am best friends with a seven year old."

Yes, while I read this I did the ugly cry!!
