Cynical?

In the wake of stories like Susan Smith, Elisa Baker and Casey Anthony, have we become a cynical nation when it comes to missing children?  I was watching GMA this morning and there was a story of a 10-month old who is missing.  Her mom put her to bed and when the dad came home the little girl wasn't in the bed, so he called the police.  The police was interviewed and he said the parents are being cooperative and I actually said out loud, "So was Susan Smith."  She gave interviews and even described someone in enough detail that there was a police sketch of him going around.  Although this was not my first thoughts, the doubt was still there.  Still wondering if the parents had anything to do with this missing baby.
